Boroscopes (aka Borescopes)are useful and valuable tools in any industry where remote visual inspections are important. Traditional, non-video techniques for tracking an object, do not work as well within the environment a boroscope typically encounters. Using these devices you can get clear visual access to many hard-to-reach places without a complete tear-down of the components.
There are two main types of boroscopes - rigid and flexible. You can get flexible boroscopes with 2 way and 4 way tip articulation, as well as devices without tip articulation.
Fiber optic scope (fiberscopes) and rigid borescopes were at one time were very popular. Nowadays video boroscopes are the most popular types of inspection devices, making up the largest segment in the market. They have similar principle construction as fiberscopes , but instead of a fragile fiber optic image bundle, they have incorporated a micro camera chip into the tip of the scope. This camera then transmits the picture to base screen and provides colorful, sharp and hi-resolution images.
Video boroscope tests are preferred over optical one tests because videoscope allows the inspector large viewing areas, the ability to access more distant spaces and better recognizable details. Using a video system also helps to avoid inspector eye fatigue. In addition, video boroscopes allow inspectors to capture inspection process as photos or as a video file, to keep as records or share with others.
